After 2 days in Sydney, we leave the city for the "red heart" of the continent. For 4 days we walk on some of the best sections of the Larapinta Trail in the centre of the western MacDonnell Ranges. We walk from one watering point to the next, between 15 and 20 km a day. Click to view some fotos. Luggage transport with vehicle.
At the end of the trail we climb Mt Sonder, which offers awesome 360 degree views. In Watarrka National Park, we walk from Kings Canyon to an Aboriginal Community where we camp for the next 2 nights. Time to relax and refresh at picturesque waterholes. Maybe our hosts take us on a walk, teaching us about how they have lived from the land for tens of thousands of years. After a visit to Uluru and Kata Tjuta, we fly via Sydney to Coffs Harbour. We spend the next few days exploring the "green outback": the ancient Gondwana Rainforests. Since this area is little known and developed despite its World Heritage status, we will have the walking tracks mostly to ourselves.
We conclude the tour with a few days in a National Park on the subtropical coast.
