The Austral-Asian
forest evolves
About 15 Mill years ago, Australia crashed into the Southeast-Asian plate on its journey to the north. An exchange of plants between tropical Southeast Asia and Australia is possible via Papua New Guinea and existing land bridges during the ice ages. The Southeast Asian immigrants and the 120 Mill year old heritage from Gondwana form new communities, the tropical and subtropical rainforests of Australia's East Coast.
